DENSO Receives Automotive Innovation Award for Collaboration with Ford Motor Company on Respirator Components


Mobility companies honored by Society of Plastics Engineers for efforts to support frontline workers during pandemic

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan, November 19, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Ford Motor Company and DENSO received an Automotive Innovation Award from the Automotive Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). They earned the honor of their alliance to produce respirators for frontline workers battling COVID-19. It was a project that represented an unprecedented mobilization in all companies to increase production and help people in need.

Over a period of approximately 25 days in 2020, hundreds of DENSO employees – including designers, manufacturing engineers and production workers – came together to develop components for Ford’s powered air purifying respirators (PAPRs). Despite a short lead time, Ford, DENSO and its supply chain quickly put this medical grade personal protective equipment into series production.
